Cozy Comforts for Writing

November is such a cozy time for writing and I like to think that’s perhaps one reason why NaNoWriMo takes place during this month. We recently got out first snowfall of the year and I just want to stay inside and keep warm, so it’s the perfect time to get some writing done. But instead of just sitting down and typing out some words, I like to get comfortable and cozy first so here are some of my favourite comforts to add coziness to any writing session.

Rainymood

Rainymood is an app that simple plays a continuous thunderstorm. I tend to listen to it more often than music while I work since I find music can be too distracting, but Rainymood is perfect for keeping focused and getting in the writing zone.

A Scented Candle

I don’t remember where I first heard that having a scented candle lit helps with creativity, but it definitely seems to work! I love having different scents to match the different seasons such as Apple Cinnamon or Spiced Pumpkin for the fall or Pine and Cedar or Mulled Wine for around Christmas.

Blue Light Blocking Glasses

These glasses are a must for eye comfort. Staring into a computer screen and writing all day is very straining on the eyes and my blue light blocking glasses are the perfect solution. They’ve made quite the difference in my productivity and you can get them in many different cute styles.

Knitted Writing Gloves

My hands are always so cold when I type for long periods of the time during the fall and winter months. I recently got a pair of writing gloves and I wish I hadn’t waited so long. These are perfect for a cozy writing session and I usually even wear them when I read as well.

Tea, Tea, and more Tea

Not only do I always have a cute mug filled with tea on my desk, but I always have a French press ready to top it off. Earl Gray and Chai are definitely my favourite types of tea and having something warm to drink is a nice little reward to getting words down.

Blanket / Sweater

This is pretty self-explanatory, but having a comfy sweater or blanket is a must for a cozy writing session to bundle up in.

Furry Companion

Writing can be lonely sometimes and I’m thankful for my Echo to keep me company. I’m sure she would rather snuggle on the couch with me while I read, but hanging out next to my writing desk is the next best thing.

What are some of your favourite cozy comforts for writing during the fall and winter? Do you prefer tea or coffee? Do you have a furry companion who snoozes by your writing desk as well?

  1. This was fun to read. My furry friend is very old and is usually snoring while he lays under my desk. Coffee is my go to drink.
