Check out my post on what exactly NaNoWriMo is here.
Less than a week left in NaNoWriMo 2020!
I’m sure most of us are losing steam at this point; I know I for sure am! I tried the “Biting the Bullet” method this year, meaning I tried writing more than then daily average at the beginning of the month to allow myself some wiggle room at the end to slow down without falling behind. It paid off because now I only need to write about 700 words a day to stay on target, instead of the 1667 daily word count that was needed at the beginning of November. Though some days 700 still feels like a lot! This is a method I want to try again in the future and hopefully be able to get even further ahead earlier on.
Writing a novel in one month is hard work! It can be stressful and exhausting, and you can feel like a complete failure if you don’t hit that word count. I find writing in short sprints helpful so even if I can only get one 15 minute writing sprint done in a day, that is still more words than I had that morning. But the spirit of NaNo is to get whatever possible written, regardless of word count, because your story doesn’t end November 30. You can, and should, go back and add, edit, and strengthen those words written.
So good luck with the last few days of NaNoWriMo to everyone participating. You’ve got this!
